Orlando Figes – The Expert Russian History Novelist and Writer

Orlando Figes has written plenty of impressive books and most of them focus on the Russian history.  His many works has won numerous awards and they are recognized by both, international and Russian award giving organization. In 1997, Figes won five awards for his revolutionary book titled as People’s Tragedy. With this book, he managed to create incredible awareness about the misfortunes, fortunes, overall toils and trails bore by the Russian peasants and farmers.

While Orlando was working on his book called People’s Tragedy, he was quite touched by the truth that he discovered and researched. By reading this book, one can have a clearing understanding on Lenin’s life, a Russian leader who attended several secret meetings and wore an ill fitted wig. In a nutshell, Figes’s excellent works will throw light on the lives and adventures of peasants in Russia.

In the year 2009, the Orlando Figes won the national award titled as the Przeglad Wschodni. This award given to Orlando is justice to his work on the history of east Europe. The Przeglad Wschodni was given to Orlando for his novel Natasha’s Dance, the history of Russia.

The Natasha’s Dance was based on enlightenment of citizens living in Russia. Orlando has mainly focused on Russian lyrics and songs in his book along with poetry, books, and paintings. Natasha’s Dance by Orlando is about the customs, ideas, and belief of the Russians. It is with Tolstoy, he revealed all the details about the war and the times when peace took place.

The main story line is focused in Natasha’s Dance in a beautiful and intelligent manner. One of the character sways to the most popular tunes, the farmers’ style and thus, the title became Natasha. This particular piece of work by Figes has been nominated for several prestigious awards such as Duff Cooper prize.

Orlando Figes apart from Natasha’s Dance wrote plenty of outstanding books and novels, most of them were nominated for the major awards and recognition. In the year 2008, Whisperers – Private Life Stalin, one of the novels by Orlando was considered for the Samuel Johnson Prize.

On the other hand, Les Chuchoteurs was also nominated for the Prix Medicis award in 2009. In his writing, The Whisperers, published in 2007, Orlando mentioned about Old Soviet Union, particularly the unique lifestyle of Russians. In this book, he discussed about the lives of Sordid Soviet under the leadership of strict Stalin.
